evaluation

What software have you used to create your website, web presence and to put your ideas on the web. Have you used specialist software or free online software or even both?
The software I used to create my website was Dreamweaver CS6, to view my work and to show the process of my project I used the site www.blogger.com which I am using now. I used the sites Tumblr and blogger - I used these sites because they were the most recommended. I created a free online software called Wix, I was able to create a template of my site (what it would look like).

For each discuss what they are and the pros & cons.

What issues did you have in:
                                     a) designing your website?
                                     b) making your website?

The issues I had with designing my website was choosing the colours and experimenting how I was going to lay out each page. The pros to designing my website was I could choose any idea from my choice, I was able to create a template on a online site and I could also copy the idea and create it on Photoshop CS6.
The issues with making my website was many thing: the most difficult thing I found was using Dreamweaver as I found it confusing and too complex for my understanding. I could not function or use the instructions to help me cause I found it so complicated.

What was the most frustrating thing?
The most frustrating thing was co-coordinating my website on Dreamweaver however I tried my best to try and follow the instructions given at home.
Was it easy to get primary resources? What did you do? (photos, drawings, digital work etc.)
I was able to take many pictures which were related to my chosen project with my camera, I picked a topic which I could expand on and take many pictures of so I had lots of images to use and experiment with. I tried to create some graphic design on illustrator and Photoshop using the images I took.

Coding: Did you use it, understand it, or does it not make any sense at all?
I used coding in the software Dreamweaver to function my website, I could understand parts of the coding i.e. '<body/>' however some codes were difficult to understand.

Did you produce interactive web pages? If so were they a) creative b) functional
I tried to produce interactive linking pages but I found it too difficult to link the pages. This means no, they were not functional (functional meaning being able to flick through the pages in order online).

If you were to do it again, what would you do differently?
I would have to ask for more assistance so that I could get my website into a functional working website, I would also use more of my graphic design on my website when designing. I would of also created more tutorial logos so that I could experiment more when designing too.

Did you find it easy or hard to follow the tutorials?
I found the YouTube tutorials quite easy to follow because they were so basic and I could rewind when confused however with the Dreamweaver tutorial I got quite stuck at some parts and had to guess what to do next.

If you had more time would this be something you would like to do more of? Would you like to revisit web-design next year? I was going to choose Web-design as one of the projects to look at next year but I find it quite difficult when it comes to actually creating the website and I am not a big fan of coding so I don't want to re-visit web design however creating the design on Photoshop was fun.

final pages description

What were you trying to achieve?

I was trying to create an active blog which would go along with what I was doing and to show how I extended my project in different ways. I tried to achieve my skills showing that I could create a blog which people worldwide could look at and read my ideas. I will also achieve a to create an interactive website from Dreamweaver CS6 to show my photography work and jewellery images.

On Dreamweaver I have created a homepage where my images are viewed so that other people are able to see.

copyright, right, permission, decency, safeguarding

Things to discuss:

  • Copyright
  • Intellectual property rights
  • Permissions
  • Libel and sensitivity to groups of society
  • Decency
  • Safeguarding
Copyright: What does the term mean? The term 'copyright' is a way of protecting your own work if you do not wish other to have it or take credit for it. If you wish to take credit in something which you created or wrote, you are able to place a copyright symbol or small text showing who is the original owner. If someone wanted to use another person's work with copyright, they would have to contact the owner and ask for permission. The image above is an example of how to copyright your work, in professional businesses you may have to pay an amount. Artists who have already placed copyright on their work as people such as Andy Warhol who has his own museum for his work viewed. Another artist such as Lichtenstein who is mostly famous for his pop art has his work also copyrighted.

Libel and sensitivity to groups of society: All people are different which means many people have different opinions about different topics, if you are wanting to show your work or wanting to say something you should always think about other opinions and views before you say yours. This may result in offence or complaint.  Many example are websites such as YouTube where people have uploaded offensive videos and people have replied their opinions.

Decency: Decency often means rude, inappropriate or explicit work which has been uploaded for the public to see. People can control this by reporting the work or sending in a complaint however people can also warn the viewer by reminding them that they are entering a explicit website and so on.

Safeguarding: Safeguarding can be related to 'decency' but this is mostly involving children and what they can view on the internet. This is mainly installed in the schools computers so that children cannot go on inappropriate or links which could cause damage.

photoshop website design and tutorials

Website design layout on Photoshop CS6

I have created a design on Photoshop of what I would like my website to look like, the theme for my white will mostly be black and white images on the homepage however the photography images will be colour. I have done a basic layout so that there is less going on and so that it is easy to navigate.

Logos:
To experiment with my layout and website, I have been creating different types of logos and expanding with the development by changing the colours and sizes. With this logo, I would use it to display the name of the company at the corner of the home page on the website.

The first logo I tried doing was my first attempt at using this effect, I like this effect because it stands out and it is very colourful. The only thing I dislike about this logo is that it may not fit or suit my layout.

I improved the logo by cropping the blank parts out because they were un-needed, I like this better because there is more room and smaller.

For this logo, I changed the font from my previous attempt and used a different colour, I do not like this logo because in my opinion, the black stands out to much from the actual image and doesn't fit the image properly.

With the background, I have followed a tutorial http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=bqvNiT_Ap_E which I have created a rainbow background using the tools on Photoshop CS6. I like the outcome of the background however, it does not suit my style. The background I created could be used for a graphic design piece.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=7e8Udy2FwpE This tutorial taught me to create a dark red logo which had a bright drop shadow to make it stand out, I like this logo because it makes the font 3D-ish however it looks quite boring. Here are screenshots of my experimenting while creating the tutorial:

Another tutorial which I followed was a Youtube Video: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=7rlyv9Juk04 which showed how to create a smashed glass effect on text. This is my outcome:

For this design, I have used my photography work and used shapes to create these images, I like these images because they are colourful and basic. They also help the website stand out in the centre.  For the menu tool, I have used a basic version so that it will be easy to navigate. The only thing I don't like about this webpage is that there is a lot of room around the outside.

With these tutorials, I have learnt many techniques to do so that I can use them when I want to experiment - I have learnt how to create a vibrant neon logo in different styles, I have learnt how to create a glass smashing logo which looks almost 3D and I have also learnt how to cut images into different shapes. The only problems for some of these examples are that they do not suit the type that I want however experimenting means I can change and develop my ideas.

website template

Free website designing

I have created a website for my photography work and to show my designing skills which I have used to create this site. The site is a free template from wix which gives you an opportunity to develop your website and give you tips on designing. My website is www.lozzy06.wix.com/lalenphotography and the site is about my jewellery, scenery and shoes which I have taken pictures of. I will create another website however on dream weaver CS6 using the coding and designing method.

design companies

Design Companies:

http://www.creativespark.co.uk
Creative Spark is a design and graphic company based in Manchester, they have created different apps and commercials by using their work. They also create illustration for different ranges of audience and adverts. I like their work because many of their graphic and illustrations are based on the younger audience and are very vibrant.

Fluid Creativity is a web design company based in Manchester, their aim is to create different websites and motion graphics. They have created work for companies i.e. NHS and Brother Printers, they also create logos for different companies, I like their work because their logos are very basic but give the indication of what the company is.

social networking

Social networking on the internet:

Social networking on the internet can give you many opportunities to get your work known, the pros for adding your work to the internet i.e. english work, art, graphic etc can allow you to achieve good feedback and different opinions. The internet also allows people from all over the world to discover your work and to give opportunities on getting jobs and places to show your work more professionally. Many people put things on the internet in creative ways which has a chance of getting an audience and sometimes people are lucky enough to show their hobby off in more depth. Another example are YouTubers, many people have the hobby to create videos for people to watch on a daily basis and multiple YouTubers have got the chance for their videos to be known and to create videos earning money at the same time.

Cons for social networking can be the opposite of good feedback, people may not agree or like your work so they may criticise the person and give hate. There are some people on the internet who may give hate on people's work for  their benefit however the work may be inappropriate or disturbing to the internet audience.

There are multiple websites which you are able to insert your work onto the internet:
  • Facebook
  • Twitter
  • Flickr
  • Tumblr
  • Blogger
  • YouTube
In my opinion, I think the best websites to put your primary work on are Tumblr and Youtube because they are so popular, firstly I believe Tumblr is one of the best sites due to people noticing your work by using tags. Another reason is that people can reblog your work and the audience will still be able to find the source of the piece. With Youtube, you are able to upload videos for your audience and collect views which can get you noticed in social media.

Promoting my work:
I have chosen Tumblr to place my work onto the site because that is the only site I currently use, the link to find my work is www.silence-the-w0rld.tumblr.com/project
